CSX Indiana Subdivision - The White River Valley
An updated in-depth 4K look at the CSX former B&O St. Louis line from Mitchell, Indiana to Seymour, Indiana along the White River. This line travels through scenic southern Indiana across spectacular hill & farm scenery along side the beautiful White River. Just a few years ago the future of this line was very much in doubt due to the removal of service to St. Louis from Mitchell, Indiana however the line from Mitchell to Cincinnati is still active and sees regular cement train (L452 & L453 alternating east and west 6 days a week). CSX J780, then renumbered L422) was the star of the show, being the exclusive train to run from Mitchell to Seymour, Indiana up until 2023, when the cement trains began dedicated service. Power for L422/J780 was usually a set of EMD GP38-2's or GP40-2's. During low traffic times a single engine will be the power. The directional east & west bound cement trains run with 6 axle power.. normally GE units but on occasion an EMD 6 axle will show up as well. This video utilizes footage shot in 4k beginning in 2019 of the distinctive B&O Color Position Light (CPL) signal system. The CPL's are rapidly disappearing in favor of more modern technology where they remain on the CSX system. Many of the remaining CPL signals in place and in use are seen in this video... often these signals would be removed just days or weeks after I filmed at a particular location. There are still many CPL's in use from Seymour to Mitchell, but from the Seymour area to Cincinnati they are rapidly being replaced or eliminated. Recently the Koppers Tie Trans-loading site at Mitchell was recently "mothballed" in August of 2024, but hopefully service to that will return and once again L422 will run again on this section of the Indiana subdivision. The tracks west of Mitchell are in place to St. Louis, and kept in running condition to Shoals, Indiana although it is technically out of service and no trains are run. However the signals are maintained and there was tie-replacement recently on that section of the railroad. There is a large National Gypsum Company gypsum wallboard plant located there that was once a major shipper on that line. Hopefully traffic from that plant will someday return to the rails! Thanks for watching, comments as always are GREATLY appreciated!!!!!!!!!!
