Repair of a 1955, Regency TR-1 Transistor Radio
In this video it is determined that the radio produces a quiet sound but tunes stations on frequency. The problem is either a bad output transistor or bad electrolytic capacitor. This is verified when a couple of them are bypassed with modern electrolytic capacitors and the radio plays loud. Since the radio is a museum piece, it was decided to put modern capacitors underneath and leave the old ones on the surface to keep the look of authenticity. After some setbacks, the capacitors are replaced and the output transistor tests good. After the final assembly, the radio ends up playing very well.
