RESTORMEL CASTLE | Is THIS Cornwall's Most Unusual Castle?
Restormel Castle, located near Lostwithiel in Cornwall, England, is a prime example of a medieval motte-and-bailey fortification with a rich history dating back to the Norman period. The castle was originally built in the late 11th century by the Norman lord Baldwin FitzTurstin, serving as a defensive stronghold and administrative center. Its strategic position overlooking the River Fowey enabled control over the surrounding landscape and trade routes. The most striking feature of Restormel Castle is its perfectly circular stone shell keep, built in the late 13th century under the orders of Edmund, Earl of Cornwall. This circular design is unusual among English castles and provides a unique architectural interest. The castle includes a great hall, chapel, kitchen, and private chambers, all arranged around a central courtyard. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Consider Supporting us on: 📌 Youtube Memberships:    / @pinnedonplaces  📌 Discord:   / discord  📌 Instagram:   / pinnedonplaces  📌 Website: https://www.pinnedonplaces.com 📌 Patreon:   / pinnedonplaces  Music Credits: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 📌 Epidemic Sound 📌 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hope you join us next time on our adventures.
