DJ Profile & MC Skibadee | Drum & Bass Classics 2001 | Kool FM 94.5 (Pirate Radio)
Artwork by Take Me Back Pirate Radio Archives. Recorded on Sun 9th Sept 2001. DJ Profile is a DNB legend who featured on many DNB rave nights, like Best Of British, One Nation and Highly Blessed. He was one of the faces behind the counter of the greatly loved, Black Market Records shop, in Soho. He was also part of the furniture on London's Kool FM. He is currently running Octave Records with DJ Brockie, which started releasing DNB tracks in 2018. Profile is still active as a DJ and producer, he is part of a DNB collective, 360 Showcase, with Nicky Blackmarket and Fatman D. This brings us on to the late and great, Skibadee, who was a national phenomenon. He worked his way up to the top to cement himself as one of greatest MCs. Joining Kool FM in 1995 he began featuring on their events in 1996, Kool Skool and Jungle Fever. From that point onwards he was practically top of every Jungle/Drum & Bass bill. He struck a partnership with MC Det, releasing their debut UK Hip Hop single "Slowmo" (Two Times Freestyle, 1998), followed by "New Style Avengers" (1998) which saw them gain mainstream success after recording music videos to their singles for MTV. Skibadee teamed up with Shabba D and Shockin B (SASAS) where they featured on Kool FM. Skibadee joined forces with Shabba D to form Highly Blessed Recordings. Together they ran one of London's most successful rave nights of the early 2000s, Highly Blessed @Stratford Rex, which gave a platform to up and coming MCs. Skibadee gained chart success with his vocal version of Dillinja's, Twist 'Em Out, in 2002. Highly Blessed was the precursor for The Uncontrolabelz (UNCZ), featuring DJ Ruff Stuff, Funsta MC, Harry Shotta, Shabba D and Skibadee. Many say The UNCZ laid the foundations for Skibadee and Harry Shotta to form the SASASAS with DJ Phantasy, Shabba D, Macky G, Stormin MC (RIP) and the rest is history. The scene sadly lost Skiba on 27th Feb 2022. We dedicate this set in honour of him and his legacy.
