You Cannot Preach the Gospel Without the Love of Christ

A clip of Jeff Durbin has been circulating in which he says we should not tell unbelievers that God loves them. Some have defended the clip by saying he was speaking against the seeker-sensitive gospel, where “Jesus loves you” replaces sin, judgement and repentance. That concern is valid, but clips without context can leave people with the impression that Christians should never speak of the love of Christ to unbelievers. In this video, I respond from a Reformed perspective. Repentance is a command, the wrath of God is real, and the gospel must never be reduced to emotional reassurance. Yet the cross remains the clearest revelation of divine love, and Christ is freely offered to every sinner who hears the gospel.
