5 Teachers. One Education Crisis

A Grade 8 history teacher delivers one of the most alarming accounts we've heard in years: out of 110 students, only 2 are reading at grade level. Many are reading at an elementary or even kindergarten level. But she argues the problem goes far beyond literacy. Students struggle with inference, critical thinking, cause and effect, and following multi-step ideas. She ends with a haunting observation: "The ship has sailed... and there's no one at the wheel." Is this simply one teacher's frustration—or is it a warning that our education system has lost its direction? In this video, we examine five teachers' firsthand accounts of what they're seeing in today's classrooms and ask the difficult question: Who is steering education? Teachers, parents, and students: Which of these five issues concerns you the most? 📚 Reading and literacy? 🏫 Classroom behaviour? 📱 Technology and attention spans? 👨‍👩‍👧 Parenting and boundaries? 💬 Or something else? Please tell us where you're from as well—it will be interesting to see whether these concerns are local or worldwide. 🧠 Need an AI Grading Tool for Teachers?
