A Jewish immigrant, he arrived in Latin America as a child after his parents fled Europe amidst the persecutions that preceded World War II. Years later, in Brazil, this young man would transform a small artisanal pharmacy into O Boticário, one of the world's largest cosmetics companies. Born in Bolivia, Miguel moved to Curitiba at a young age, where he worked in his family's small business and built his core values: hard work, discipline, and a long-term vision. After graduating in Pharmacy and Biochemistry from the Federal University of Paraná, he decided to become an entrepreneur instead of pursuing a traditional career. With only $3,000 borrowed, he opened a compounding pharmacy with an innovative concept for the time: personalized service and handcrafted natural products. In 1977, the first O Boticário store was born. Success was immediate. The differentiated approach, combined with the quality of the products, quickly won over customers. Perfumes, cosmetics, and colognes were added to the portfolio, until a major risk changed everything: the purchase of 60,000 perfume bottles from Silvio Santos. From this gamble came the iconic Aqua Fresca — and the brand's accelerated growth. Attentive to opportunities, Miguel was one of the pioneers of the franchise system in Brazil. This strategy allowed for rapid and sustainable expansion, leading O Boticário to hundreds, then thousands of stores. The success crossed borders: Portugal, the United States, the Middle East, and other markets began to receive the Brazilian brand. Innovation never stopped. From the launch of Malbec—the best-selling perfume in Brazil—to the creation of Nativa Spa and brands like Eudora, Quem Disse Berenice?, and Vult, the group consolidated itself as the absolute leader in the sector. Today, there are more than 4,000 stores in 15 countries and a billion-dollar annual revenue. Even with such wealth, Miguel Krigsner maintained a strong social and environmental commitment. He created the Boticário Foundation, the Holocaust Museum in Curitiba, and supports various philanthropic causes. His trajectory shows that vision, courage, and purpose can transform a resource-poor immigrant into one of Brazil's greatest entrepreneurs. An inspiring story that proves entrepreneurship can change lives — and deserves to be told.
