DOCUMENTAL: La Fiesta Grande de Chiapa de Corzo, Chiapas.

The Fiesta de los Parachicos, or Fiesta Grande de Chiapa de Corzo, is one of the most important celebrations in Chiapas and takes place every year from January 4th to 23rd. Like any good festival, there's no shortage of music, decorated houses and streets, traditional food, and dancing. This celebration is dedicated to the Lord of Esquipulas, Saint Anthony the Abbot, and Saint Sebastian the Martyr, the latter considered the patron saint of the Parachicos. The Parachicos are dancers who perform in gratitude for the favors their saints have granted them throughout the year. The Parachicos are distinguished by their very special attire, which includes serapes, embroidered shawls, multicolored ribbons, and a montera (a type of hat). They cover their faces with a carved wooden mask and carry a tin rattle called a chinchín (a type of rattle). The Parachicos' offerings consist of dances that begin in the morning and end late at night.
