Antibiorésistance : une pandémie silencieuse | Printemps de la Prévention 2026 #3
As part of the "Springtime of Prevention" initiative, whose 2026 edition focuses on rural health, the Pasteur Institute of Lille dedicates a new episode of its video podcast to a major public health issue: antibiotic resistance. Alongside Dr. Arnaud Machelart and Axelle Grandé, INSERM researchers at the Pasteur Institute of Lille campus, we explore the consequences of environmental contamination by pharmaceuticals, particularly antibiotics, and its impact on the emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. While nearly 25% of the French population is exposed to water contaminated by pharmaceutical residues, this invisible pollution also affects rural areas. It contributes to the development of antibiotic resistance, a phenomenon that the World Health Organization considers one of the greatest health threats of the 21st century. According to projections, if no action is taken, antibiotic resistance could become the leading cause of death worldwide by 2050, with more than 10 million deaths per year. 🎙️ In this podcast, discover: ✔️ What antibiotic resistance is and how it develops ✔️ The role of environmental pollution in antibiotic resistance ✔️ Why rural areas are also affected ✔️ The consequences for human, animal, and environmental health ✔️ Solutions for preserving the effectiveness of antibiotics Through this podcast, the Spring of Prevention series highlights the importance of a comprehensive approach to health, at the intersection of research, the environment, and prevention. 📍 An initiative of the Pasteur Institute of Lille as part of the 2026 Prevention Spring program. #AntibioticResistance #PublicHealth #Prevention #Health #Research #Antibiotics #Environment @inserm
