Alexandre Farnèse : entre Parme, Madrid et Bruxelles, avec Olivier Poncet

Make a donation and receive a gift: http://don.storiavoce.com/ Great-grandson of a pope, grandson of Charles V, Alessandro Farnese was one of the most prominent figures of the second half of the 16th century. Victorious at Lepanto in 1571, governor of the Spanish Netherlands, Duke of Parma and Piacenza, he commanded the most powerful army in Europe. A complex personality, accused of duplicity by his enemies, even envied by Philip II of Spain, Alessandro Farnese was not, however, a condottiere, but a prince serving a global empire. He undoubtedly embodies a new political vision and can even be considered the father of modern-day Belgium. Guest: Olivier Poncet is an archivist, paleographer, and holds a doctorate in history. A former member of the French School in Rome, he is currently a professor at the École des Chartes and director of studies at the EHESS. He has just published Alexandre Farnèse. Prince et capitaine. 1545-1592 (Perrin, 350 pp., €25). *** Facebook:   / histoireetcivilisationsmag   Instagram:   / histoireetcivilisations   Twitter:   / storiavoce
