Why you should Paint (And Why I Don’t Follow Tutorials)
Why do I paint? A lot of art videos focus on tutorials, techniques, and copying what someone else is doing. There’s nothing wrong with that, but that’s never really been the reason I paint. For me, painting is about figuring things out for yourself. Every painting is a problem to solve: How do you simplify a landscape? How do you suggest light with just a few brush strokes? What do you leave out? You can follow tutorials forever, but at some point you have to stop copying and start thinking like a painter. That’s where the real learning happens. In this video I talk honestly about why I paint, why problem solving is the most important part of the process, and why developing your own way of seeing matters far more than following someone else’s steps. Because painting isn’t really about doing it right. It’s about working it out for yourself. 🎨 Subscribe for more behind-the-scenes painting videos, sketching trips and studio chats: / @northumberlandart 📺 My recent BBC appearance judging the Look North Children in Need photography competition: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0n1... #WhyIPaint #ArtistLife #CreativeProcess #PaintingThoughts #ArtistStudio #PaintingJourney #ContemporaryLandscape #NorthumberlandArt #StudioTalk #ArtPhilosophy #ArtistsOnYouTube #LandscapePainter #CreativeThinking #ArtMotivation
