Spring Hike On Wheeler Mountain | Vermont

Join me for a spring hike on Wheeler Mountain in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom, one of my favorite early-season trails. Thanks to its low elevation and sunny southern exposure, this hike dries out well before many of the higher peaks in the Green Mountains, making it a great option for mud season and spring hiking in Vermont. Even though Wheeler Mountain stays below 2,500 feet, the trail feels much bigger thanks to its open granite slabs, rugged terrain, and fun rock scrambling. The hike ends at Eagle Rock, just 2.2 miles from the trailhead, with sweeping 180° views overlooking Lake Willoughby, Bald Mountain, Mount Pisgah, Burke Mountain, and even distant White Mountain peaks like Mount Lafayette and Cannon Mountain in New Hampshire. If you enjoy Vermont hiking, mountain views, rock scrambles, Northeast Kingdom adventures, and scenic New England trails, this is a hike worth adding to your list.
