Sunset Photo Hike on Mount Pisgah | Vermont

I hiked Vermont’s Mount Pisgah via the South Trail on Sunday afternoon, hoping to catch a good sunset over Lake Willoughby. I had originally planned to hike the North Trail, which I’ve never done before, but the parking lot was completely full. I don’t hike on weekends very often, so I usually don’t have to deal with crowded trailheads. At about the halfway point, the trail reaches Pulpit Rock with its sweeping view over the south end of Lake Willoughby and Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom. From there, the climb continues to the summit ridge, where the forest floor was lush with spring beauties, red trillium, and trout lilies. A stiff breeze helped keep the black flies at bay as I made my way toward the South Overlook and the summit of Mount Pisgah. The summit is only a short distance past the South Overlook. From there, I followed the North Trail to three dramatic cliff-top overlooks with incredible views of Lake Willoughby, the distant Green Mountains, and Vermont’s wild Northeast Kingdom landscape. Unfortunately, the sunset kind of fizzled out and never really produced the light I was hoping for, but I still created a 14-image mega panorama for a new Peak ID video featuring the overlooks and mountain scenery from the top of Mount Pisgah. #hikevermont #hiking #vermont #photography #lakewilloughby
