Welcome back to the Mindenerwald Farm Timelapse. Today, we continue our journey from nothing in Mindenerwald, focusing entirely on harvest contracts to build our startup capital. After the success of our first day, we wanted to find out whether harvesting could generate even more income than bale contracts. We begin by renting equipment for our first harvesting job and quickly discover one of the biggest advantages of harvest contracts. In addition to the contract payment, we also receive a share of the harvested crop, which can be sold for extra profit. The first field earns us $6,796 in contract income plus another $2,175 from the harvested grain. Encouraged by these results, we accept the highest-paying harvest contract available. The field turns out to be massive, and the rented combine comes equipped with a wide header capable of covering large areas quickly. As always, our strategy is to maximize profits by using the rented machinery on multiple contracts before collecting payment. After completing the large field, we move directly to another harvesting contract using the same combine. Throughout the day, we harvest several fields, sell our share of the grain, and continue searching for the most profitable contract strategy. While the harvesting operation generates around $20,000 in direct earnings and roughly $25,000 including unfinished contracts, the results are still far behind the $80,000 we earned from bale contracts on our first day. This leaves us with an important question for the future of the challenge: are harvest contracts really the best way to build a farming empire from scratch, or should we focus on more profitable opportunities?
