Turn to My rebuke, and I will pour out My Spirit on you and reveal My words to you. 24. I called, but you refused; I stretched out my hand, but no one paid attention. 25. You rejected all My counsel and refused My reproof. 26. Therefore I will laugh at your misfortune, I will smirk when terror comes upon you, 27. When fear falls upon you like a storm, and trouble strikes like a whirlwind, when sorrow and distress overtake you. 📜 MALBIM ANALYSIS Malbim reveals the main point: "I will pour out My spirit" is not a transfer of information, but something more. Knowledge can be imparted with words, but spirit (ruach) can only be infused—this changes the very organ of a person's perception, rather than adding facts to memory. And here Malbim shows: verses 24-25 are not a poetic repetition, but a precise portrait of four types we have already encountered: 🔹 PET (simpleton)—"I called, but you refused." He doesn't even argue—he simply doesn't respond. An empty vessel, comfortable remaining empty. 🔹 Ksil (fool in lust) — "she extended her hand, but no one paid attention." He sees a helping hand, but desire distracts him first. 🔹 Evil (stubborn skeptic) — "they rejected all My counsel." Active action: pride, setting itself up as a judge of truth. 🔹 Letz (mocker) — "they did not accept reproof." He doesn't argue with the essence of the matter; he simply ridicules the very attempt to correct him. Malbim: different illnesses, one outcome. 🔮 Depth: The Vilna Gaon The Gaon examines the word "ruach" (spirit). There are three levels of the soul: nefesh, ruach, and neshama. Here, Wisdom offers neither the lower level (bare fact) nor the higher (prophetic insight), but ruach—the level of feelings and character where real changes in human behavior are born. And the Gaon reads "storm" and "whirlwind" in verse 27 as mida keneged mida (measure for measure): the same outstretched hand, the same voice that called to goodness—when rejected, do not disappear, but turn into their opposite. This is not a new punishment from the outside—it is the boomerang of a rejected gift. 🎯 PRACTICE OF THE WEEK Today, honestly ask yourself: which of the four "no"s do you most often respond to what you already know to be true inside? Do I not react (peti)? Am I distracted by desire (ksil)? Do I argue out of pride (evil)? Do I ridicule (lets)?
