The NABU also exposed People's Deputy Mykola Tyshchenko in an attempt to "roof" the call center of the "Khimprom" group. Chechens also exposed the sons of criminal authorities from the Dnipro "Narik" and "Komar" and demanded a ransom (the first escaped, the body of the other was found dismembered on a beach in Bali). Fraudulent call centers have become an extremely profitable and well-networked illegal activity in Ukraine: according to some estimates, they are second only to economic crimes and exceed drug trafficking. According to the Global Initiative Against Organized Crime, there were 1,000-2,000 fraudulent call centers in Ukraine in 2023. In large cities such as Kyiv, Dnipro, Odesa, and Lviv, they can employ 250-300 people at a time. In total, they employ about 60,000 Ukrainians, which is two-thirds of the number employed in the legal banking sector. A medium-sized “office” earns $1 million per month, and a large one earns up to $3 million. According to the lowest estimates, the Ukrainian economy of fraudulent call centers can generate up to $1 billion per month.
