Anything can be destroyed simply by spinning it hard! We decided to spin samples made from popular 3D printing plastics—ABS, PLA, and PETG. As the rotation speed increases, the samples experience increasing overload, and eventually, centrifugal force causes stresses in the sample that exceed the material's tensile strength. During the test, both the rig and the samples are subjected to strong vibrations, which (according to one theory) PETG is completely unsuited to. One goal of the study was to confirm or refute PETG's unique resistance to vibration. A second goal was to compare the strength of 3D printed parts under static and dynamic loads. Finally, the third goal was to enjoy watching incredible images of rotational destruction with the image slowed down by 240 and even 800 times!
