Then Antoine heads to Chiatura in the center of the country. That evening, he spots a giant screen in the city center broadcasting a soccer match. As he orders a sandwich, Tazo, a young man, approaches him. He explains that they are in a mining town and that the people are poor. He spontaneously offers to let him stay at his place. Antoine follows him and meets a friend of his who has been severely impaired by a stroke and appears to be a chess champion. Then the globetrotting squatter continues his journey to Ushguli, located at an altitude of 2,000 meters. The village is dotted with centuries-old towers standing about fifteen meters tall. He runs into two rather rough-looking men who take tourists on horseback rides. He spends the evening drinking with them.
