Thrangu Rinpoche: A Commentary on The Magic Key by Khenpo Ganshar The Magical Key is a concise text written by Khenpo Gangshar Wangpo which presents the different philosophical schools of Buddhism and focuses primarily on the profound definitive meaning of the Great Middle Way. Khenpo Gangshar held the lineage of these teachings were based on the teachings of great Mipham Rinpoche. Mipham Rinpoche actually stayed for a while at Thrangu Monastery in Tibet when it was run by the previous 13th Thrangu Tulku. Khenpo Ganshar was one of the most influential teachers of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche and Thrangu Rinpoche. This text called The Magic Key by Khenpo Gangshar was recently discovered and translated into English. It concerns understanding the view as an essential foundation for developing direct experience and realization when practicing Mahamudra and Dzogchen meditation. In these talks, Thrangu Rinpoche presents the view based on teachings he received directly from Khenpo Gangshar. Rinpoche in which briefly explains five non-Buddhist Schools as well as the Vaibhashika, Sautantrika and Chittamatra (Mind Only) schools of Buddhism. The primary focus of these teachings, however, is on the Middle Way Schools of the Mahayana. Khenpo Gangshar’s text skillfully presents the meaning of the Shentong Middle Way school and its relationship to the Rangtong Middle Way School. Thrangu Rinpoche’s commentary clarifies this text making Khenpo Gangshar’s profound teaching accessible. These teachings consist of nine talks and were translated by David Karma Choephel.
