VODNIKOV DOM NA VELEM POLJU - al cospetto del TRIGLAV

Vodnikov Dom, one of the refuges on the ascent route to Triglav. An exceptional panoramic viewpoint on the highest peak in the Julian Alps. This is the destination of this hike. We started from Rudno Polje (1,342 m above sea level), on the Pokljuka plateau, a half-hour drive from the renowned Lake Bled. From there, we intended to climb the classic route to the refuge, but shortly after starting, we took a wrong turn, which led us to take an exceptionally scenic, albeit longer and more tiring, detour. We climbed to the stunning Srenjisky preval (saddle), and from there, along a rather challenging cable-secured path, we crossed to the Studorski preval (saddle). Halfway through, a marvelous view of the imposing Triglav opened up, making the detour worthwhile. From this last pass, along a mostly flat route and with a comfortable rocky ledge, we reached the refuge, now closed since it was November. The view from this point is breathtaking, both of the Triglav, the mountain pastures below, and the impressive ring of peaks. Since we didn't have much time, we stayed only a good half hour before returning to Rudno Polje, this time following the classic route, which is decidedly shorter and easier.
