Dave Smart - Building Transition Defense to Lock Left Philosophy -Basketball MB Super Coaches Clinic Dave Smart, widely regarded as Canada's most successful college basketball coach, was named Head Coach of the Pacific men's basketball program in March 2024. Before this, he served as Assistant Coach at Texas Tech, where he helped the Red Raiders to the NCAA Tournament. Smart is best known for his legendary tenure at Carleton University, where he amassed 656 wins over 18 seasons, including 13 U SPORTS National Championships and 11 OUA Conference titles. He holds a remarkable 591-48 record in U SPORTS competition and was named U SPORTS Coach of the Year a record 10 times. Beyond his collegiate success, Smart has been involved with the Canadian national basketball teams, serving as an assistant coach for the Senior Men’s National Team. He helped lead Canada to a third-place finish at the FIBA Americas Championship and played a key role in their Olympic Qualifying efforts. His teams at Carleton also recorded impressive wins against several top NCAA programs during summer tours. Smart has a reputation for producing professional-level talent and has also been involved in consulting roles for the Ottawa Senators NHL team and as general manager of the Ottawa BlackJacks in the Canadian Elite Basketball League. He is the current Head Coach of the University of the Pacific Tigers men's basketball team, which competes at the NCAA Division 1 level in the West Coast Conference.
