Muskelschwund (Sarkopenie) im Alter: Ursachen, Folgen und Therapie (Fitness Basics)

In this video, I'll explain the causes of muscle loss (sarcopenia), how you can prevent it, and the potential consequences in old age. From the age of 30, we lose approximately 10% of our muscle mass per decade. This is due to factors such as hormonal changes (e.g., decreased testosterone levels in men), poor diet, reduced recovery time, and a lack of targeted strength training and physical activity. The medical consequences in old age range from increased frailty, risk of falls, and loss of strength to increased mortality (probability of death). There are various therapeutic approaches to counteract muscle loss, maintain muscle mass, or even promote muscle growth. These include proper nutrition (especially protein) and targeted strength training.
