A Day of Hope, Community and New Opportunities

Today, Kay and I attended the Juneteenth Celebration at the Marilyn Monroe Monument in Palm Springs. It was a beautiful event filled with music, culture, history, and community spirit. One of the highlights of the day was witnessing an award presentation by former Mayor Grace Garner. After offering my compliments from a distance, she graciously approached me, giving me the opportunity to share some of the challenges I have faced, including experiences of racism, homophobia and xenophobia at Safari Park. She listened attentively and encouraged me to put everything in writing, assuring me that she would help connect me with the appropriate people because, as she said, “this should not be happening in Palm Springs.” What began as a day of celebration became a day of hope and encouragement. I returned home feeling heard, supported and optimistic that positive change is possible when good people are willing to listen and take action. Thank you for joining me on this journey.
