The restoration of rantak (traditional water mill) in Phey village, Ladakh, represents an important part of the Local Ecological Knowledge (LEK) revival and was undertaken by ATREE and Achi Association India, in collaboration with Field Studios. LEK revival is a crucial component of the AMP-Himalaya project, supported by Rural India Supporting Trust (RIST). LEK encompasses generations of observations, practices, and cultural values that have guided the sustainable use of natural resources. By mapping, documenting, validating, and integrating these traditional practices into contemporary conservation and livelihood strategies, the project seeks to strengthen community stewardship, enhance adaptive capacities, and ensure the continuity of local wisdom for future generations.
