Dr Shirley Sherwood Presents: ‘Red & Purple Currants Raspberries Snail & Bee 2001’ by Gertrude Hamilton. Who’s been out berry picking this summer? It’s a marvellous time of year for it and this piece by Gertrude Hamilton is the perfect ode. She’s painted the currants and raspberries with watercolour on vintage-looking paper and, as Dr Sherwood mentions here, it seems to nod to more historic botanical art by artists such as 16th-century painter, Joris Hoefnagel. This video is a golden oldie, recorded back in 2020 after Dr Sherwood’s retrospective at the Shirley Sherwood Gallery.
