Seeking Like a Roaring Lion “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8). The Holy Bible records in Revelation 12 that there was a great battle in heaven in which Michael (Jesus) and his angels fought against the Devil and his angels. Michael emerged victorious, and Satan was cast out of heaven and hurled to earth. Since then, he has been intent on attacking and destroying God’s perfect creation: humankind. Satan led humanity into sin, deceiving them and causing them to distrust God. Thus, throughout the ages, the enemy of God and humanity, generation after generation, has devised the most ingenious traps to continue leading people into sin. In every stage of history, we observe how evil and its sophistication have increased, to such an extent that there are no limits to the mind of humankind motivated by the Devil. But we have also seen men and women who have bravely faced the Enemy and emerged victorious. Although Satan attacked them with all his fury, those like Job, Abraham, Joseph, Daniel, Moses, and many others knew how to depend on God for victory. Today is not much different. The Enemy continues to attack humanity because he knows he can fight against God. To God, he is a defeated enemy, but he persists in making His children suffer and then blaming God, pointing to him as the source of suffering, sickness, and death. As the father of lies, he has always been a liar. However, God has the solution through His death on the cross of Calvary, where He demonstrated how much He loves you. God does not hate you, nor is He the source of suffering and death; rather, He has come to put an end to all evil through His perfect sacrifice on the cross; He has won eternal life for you and because of you. My dear friend, Satan continually seeks to make you fall and suffer. It is a roaring lion stalking you, but in the hands of Jesus is your safe refuge. He has already overcome every kind of temptation and is your ever-present help in trouble, so come to Jesus because, by His grace, He will make you victorious through His Holy Spirit.
