Ștefan Luchian is one of the artists who definitively changed the destiny of Romanian painting. Considered the link between Nicolae Grigorescu's generation and the great names of Romanian modernism, Luchian brought more light, more color and a new sensitivity to art, influencing entire generations of painters, from Tonitza and Iser to Corneliu Baba. Trained in Bucharest, Munich and Paris, Ștefan Luchian was one of the great innovators of Romanian art at the beginning of the 20th century. He rejected rigid academic conventions and sought a painting that was more sincere, more vivid and closer to the sensibility of his contemporaries. Through his involvement in the Ileana Society and the Artistic Youth, he contributed not only to the stylistic modernization of Romanian art, but also to the affirmation of a new generation of artists. His story is one of the most impressive in the history of Romanian culture. In the last years of his life, affected by a serious neurological disease, he continued to paint with extraordinary will, creating some of the most sensitive and beloved works of Romanian art. His flowers, now emblematic, are the expression of a creative force that triumphed over suffering. More than a century after his death, Ștefan Luchian remains one of the most appreciated and sought-after artists on the Romanian art market.
