Painter, muralist, writer and promoter of interwar culture, Olga Greceanu belongs to that generation of artists who definitively changed the status of women in Romanian art, alongside Cecilia Cuțescu-Storck and Nina Arbore. Trained in Liège, where she simultaneously studied Fine Arts and Chemistry, Olga Greceanu built a unique artistic language, located at the meeting point between European modernism and Byzantine tradition. Art critics today consider her one of the essential figures of Romanian neo-Byzantinism, a creator who transformed spirituality into a profoundly modern artistic expression. Author of important monumental mural and mosaic painting programs for the Palace of the Holy Synod, the Royal Palace, the Institute of Architecture, the Antim Monastery and numerous other representative buildings, Olga Greceanu had a major influence on Romanian interwar culture. After the establishment of the communist regime, however, her closeness to Orthodox spirituality led to the marginalization of the artist, and some of her monumental works were covered up or destroyed. Today, art historians and collectors are participating in the recovery of one of the great rediscovered artists of the Romanian 20th century. Interest in her work is constantly growing, amid the reevaluation of interwar art and the attention paid to the great female creators of the era. Precisely for this reason, her works are viewed not only as collector's items, but also as testimonies of an exceptional personality who united artistic modernity, spirituality and Romanian culture in a work of remarkable originality. The Artmark Summer Auction exhibition is open with free admission (daily, Monday to Sunday — 10:00-20:00), at the Cesianu-Racoviță Palace (5 C.A. Rosetti Street), until the auction date, June 18 (6:00 PM). #OlgaGreceanu #Art #Artmark #Auction #ArtCollection
