Girpasang Hamlet is a remote hamlet located in Tegalmulyo Village, Kemalang District, Klaten Regency, Central Java. At an elevation of 1,158 meters above sea level, Girpasang Hamlet is one of the highest hamlets in Klaten Regency. It is also only 4 kilometers from the summit of Mount Merapi, making it the highest and outermost hamlet in Klaten Regency. This hamlet is known for its extremely remote location, nestled amidst the hills and valleys surrounding Mount Merapi. Access to Girpasang was once extremely difficult, as the only access route was by crossing a ravine using a traditional gondola or by foot along a steep path. Despite its remoteness, Girpasang has become widely known for its beautiful natural scenery and the unique way of life of its residents. In recent years, the area has also become a tourist destination for travelers seeking the thrill of a challenging journey and a pristine rural atmosphere. Infrastructure such as a suspension bridge has been built to facilitate access to the hamlet, further attracting visitors. Climbing 1,001 steps on the edge of a 150-meter-deep ravine Don't be surprised if you encounter seemingly endless stairs when trying to reach Girpasang Hamlet. These stairs were the only way to reach the highest hamlet in Klaten before a suspension bridge was built in 2021. Gondolas as a means of transporting logistics Girpasang Hamlet also built gondolas for transporting goods. These gondolas are very convenient for residents, making it easier to transport crops, food supplies, and various necessities within the highest hamlet in Klaten.
