For me, traveling has always meant actively experiencing a country. So, every year I sought out new challenges – from skiing in the Alps to rafting in South America, cycling in North America, and numerous multi-day hikes in places like Patagonia, Peru, and Kyrgyzstan. This year, I was ready for the next step: climbing one of the Seven Summits. When G Adventures asked me if I was willing to become their brand ambassador, I saw the opportunity to tackle Africa's highest peak...but I had no idea how tough it would be... Unlike other adventures, this one started five months in advance...I worked on my fitness, changed my diet, and did a lot of research on Kilimanjaro. I chose the 56km Lemosho Route, which takes a full 8 days. There are two reasons for this: firstly, the elevation profile of this route is the best for acclimatizing the body to the altitude, resulting in a high success rate (G Adventures has a 96% success rate). The other reason is the scenic beauty. Climbing Kilimanjaro via the Lemosho Route is considered the most picturesque and impressive of all routes. Located in northeastern Tanzania, at 5,895 meters above sea level, Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain range in Africa and thus one of the Big Seven. It is also the highest freestanding mountain in the world. Kilimanjaro is a dormant volcano with three craters: Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira. The highest point is Mount Kibo.
