I'll be discussing the themes of IQ, EQ, and physical strength. If you browse the internet, you'll often see people flaunting their wealth or academic credentials. I don't really want to watch TikTok, but I find myself watching it in the middle of the night. There's a lot of talk about how smart someone is, whether they can succeed, whether they're rich, or whether they've had business success. We've also talked about the importance of physical strength, but I'd like to chat about what innate qualities are from a psychiatrist's perspective. I'm talking about IQ, EQ, and physical strength. It's the so-called mind, technique, and body. Let's explain each one. ◾️IQ IQ is what's known as cognitive ability, and it can be measured with an IQ test. It includes memory, knowledge, language comprehension, logical reasoning, logical thinking, processing speed (how quickly your mind works), and working memory (how much you can remember at once). These are called IQ, cognitive ability, or simply IQ. It's what's known as natural intelligence. It's highly hereditary. Similar to motor skills, it's often something you're born with. However, training can improve that area. I'm not particularly fast at processing speed, and I'm not particularly smart, but training can improve that area. In modern society, there's a huge amount of information and data from the past, so there are many things that can be managed with study, and training often makes you appear smarter. Up until the university entrance exams, success isn't just down to ability, but also to spending money. Because they get top grades, parents often push them to overtrain. This is because academic background can sometimes determine one's future. This is because an academically-based society is not entirely without its share of modern-day class systems, and this can be a problem. That's IQ. Complex tasks. These can be improved with training, but complex tasks are difficult to improve with training. These are what are called social procedures, and in psychiatry, for example, submitting paperwork to a government office. If you practice writing paperwork, you'll be able to write it, but then you have to take it to the government office and negotiate with the government official. You can do various skills individually, but when it comes to putting them all together, you might not be able to do it. People who can't tidy up in the first place can't do it, right? It's like a slightly off-the-wall application of that. Whether you go to the University of Tokyo or medical school, people who can't tidy up are naturally weak at it, but it can also happen with people with ADHD or developmental disorders. I often say, "It's hard to say anything about this, but even if I say it, they probably won't be able to do it." "They probably can't do this." Because it's related to IQ and involves complex tasks, it's actually possible to tell which people probably won't be able to do it with training, and which ones they might be able to do with training. If you understand IQ a little more deeply, you can learn more by studying it. ◾️EQ Next is EQ. EQ is a non-cognitive ability, and while it's genetic, it's weaker than the other two. It's the ability to manage and control emotions. It's the ability to understand others and foster good interpersonal relationships. This is called EQ, or emotional intelligence. This can also be improved through training, so it's an area that is heavily trained in psychiatric clinical practice and counseling. In counseling, we often focus on improving problem-solving skills. This includes ...
