After reaching Ushguli, one of the most remote and spectacular villages in the Caucasus, we set off on a very long journey through the wildest and least touristy part of Georgia. From the mountains of Svaneti, we descend toward a completely different destination: Chiatura, a mining town suspended in time, amidst Soviet cable cars, decaying buildings, manganese mines, and a ghost town atmosphere. 🇬🇪 This second episode from Georgia is a journey into two opposing worlds: on one side, the medieval towers, mountain roads, and isolated villages of the Caucasus; on the other, industrial, post-Soviet Georgia, forgotten by traditional tourist routes. 📍 In this video we travel through: The endless roads between Ushguli and Chiatura Mountain landscapes, remote villages, and Georgian valleys The mining town of Chiatura The historic Soviet cable cars, a symbol of the city The old working-class neighborhoods and traces of the USSR Chiatura's connection to manganese mining The most decadent and fascinating side of post-Soviet Georgia Chiatura was for decades a key city for Soviet industry, thanks to its manganese mines. Today, however, walking among its buildings, old infrastructure, and suspended cable cars means entering a place that seems trapped in another era. 🎥 If the first episode was the Georgia of mountains and remote villages, this is its more urban, decadent, and surreal side. A long, uncomfortable, and absurd journey.
