44-Year-Old La Pavoni Professional Full Rebuild
Afterthought and correction: It has come to my attention that the work with the switch was acceptable, but my reasoning was ill informed. Switching hot + neutral with a DPDT/DPST switch is not automatically unsafe, but it usually does not add much real safety on a polarized 120V machine. It adds more terminals, more splices, more chances for a mistake, and more things that can loosen or fail. This 1980 La Pavoni Professional came in as a true old-school lever machine with very little done to it over the years. After decades of service, it was time for a full teardown and proper rebuild. In this video, I completely disassemble and rebuild this vintage La Pavoni Professional from the inside out. Every gasket was replaced using the Coffee Sensor La Pavoni Lever Ultimate Silicone Service Kit, a full service kit designed for La Pavoni lever machines. You can find it here: Coffee Sensor — La Pavoni Lever Ultimate Silicone Service Kit. Along with the gasket overhaul, I replaced the original safety valve with the newest upgraded La Pavoni safety valve, cleaned and inspected the major components, and brought this classic machine back to working condition. These machines are beautifully simple, but after 40+ years, the seals, valves, and wear points matter. This rebuild shows why the La Pavoni Professional is still one of the most iconic home lever espresso machines ever made: no pump, no electronics doing the work for you — just pressure, temperature, technique, and a solid mechanical design. If you love vintage espresso machines, lever machines, restorations, or classic Italian espresso equipment, this one is worth watching.
