STATE WITNESS REVEALS HOW POLICE TRACKED THE MERCEDES BEFORE KEKANA'S ARREST

The Vusimuzi Matlala trial heard fresh testimony from the State's second witness, Christiaan Sheppard, who described the police operation that unfolded before Kekana's arrest on 17 April 2024. Sheppard told the court he was on duty when he received information about suspects and vehicles being sought by police in the Houghton and Norwood area. He testified that Captain Sekhobela later provided descriptions of the vehicles and an address in the Kew and Bramley area. After arriving at the location, Sheppard said he spotted a white Mercedes parked at the property but did not see the Hyundai i20 police were searching for. According to his evidence, he informed Captain Sekhobela, who instructed him to continue observing the property. Sheppard then parked nearby and maintained surveillance as the operation continued.
