The second half of the 19th century was an era of radical transformations, large-scale reforms, and rapid modernization of the Russian Empire. In this video, we will examine in detail the Great Reforms of Alexander II, the abolition of serfdom, the subsequent economic boom, the state's foreign policy, and the conservative turn during the reign of Alexander III. The period from 1856 to 1900 was a time of tremendous historical transition for Russia. Following the Crimean War, the state desperately needed a profound renewal of its internal structure. A key milestone in this process was the Peasant Reform of 1861, which abolished serfdom and set off a chain reaction of modernization in all spheres of society. Andrei Vasilyevich Tereshchuk is a Russian historian who dedicated his life to describing the lives and works of the great figures of Imperial Russia. A distinctive feature of his works is their unvarnished depictions of outstanding personalities, complete with all the flaws and vices inherent in human nature. Despite the "debunking" of myths, the books also present the most important events, reforms, and other events carried out by the volume's protagonist. The work that brought the author worldwide fame was his book about Grigory Rasputin.
