TRIBUN-TIMUR.COM, MAKASSAR - A young man with the initials [unclear text] in Makassar City, South Sulawesi, was arrested by police after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend. The alleged assault was captured on CCTV at Pamos Cendrawasih Market, Jl. Tanjung Bunga, Mamajang District, Makassar, on Thursday (July 10, 2025). In the circulating CCTV footage, the victim, wearing a white t-shirt, approaches the perpetrator, who is known to be his girlfriend. At the time, the perpetrator was in front of his workplace selling coconuts. Unknown what triggered it, the two lovers got into an argument that led to a physical altercation. Fortunately, another man wearing a blue t-shirt saw the commotion and intervened. The altercation prompted personnel from the Mamajang Police Mobile Brigade to arrive at the scene. The perpetrator was then apprehended amidst the crowd and taken to the Mamajang Police Station. The Head of the Mamajang Police Mobile Brigade, First Inspector Muhammad Rizal Taha, when met at his office, confirmed the incident. The alleged perpetrators are identified as R (21) and his girlfriend, C (17). "So, based on information from residents, we from the Mobile Brigade, along with security and Community Policing, immediately went to the scene where an alleged assault occurred," said First Inspector Rizal. Upon arriving at the scene, Rizal said, he and other personnel immediately apprehended the two. "We arrested two people, the victim and the perpetrator," Rizal said. Because the woman is still a minor, the case has been handed over to the Women and Children Protection Unit (PPA) of the Makassar Police. "For the time being, we at the Mamajang Police have transferred the perpetrator and victim to the Makassar Police Station," he explained. The motive, or trigger, for the argument that led to the physical altercation, he said, was that the perpetrator felt uncomfortable when the victim approached him at work. "After our interrogation, the perpetrator felt uncomfortable because his girlfriend or the victim always approached him asking for money," Rizal revealed. Furthermore, Rizal continued, the perpetrator had also frequently abused his girlfriend before being apprehended. "It happened (often), as there are still bruises under his eyes," Rizal explained. The first officer also said that when he was apprehended, the alleged perpetrator was nearly attacked by residents. "The perpetrator was nearly attacked by the mob, but the alertness of the Community Development Officer (Binmas), Mobile Brigade (Resmob), and security immediately secured him and took him to the Mamajang Police Station," he said. Separately, Makassar Police Public Relations Chief, AKP Wahiduddin, stated that the perpetrator is currently being questioned at the Women and Children Protection Unit (PPA). He also emphasized that every report received by the Makassar City Police will be processed according to applicable law.
