Picked up by members of the Panakkukang Police Mobile Brigade at his home in Bontoala District, Makassar City, MT was helpless. With a disheveled face and handcuffs, MT resignedly submitted to being led into a holding cell. Before being placed in the cell, investigators interrogated him. During the question-and-answer session, MT confessed to his actions. He admitted to entering his employer's house through the garage. Afterward, the door to the empty house was unlocked. MT went inside and went to the second floor. On the second floor, he found the bedroom door half open. He entered and saw a suitcase lying next to the bed. "But there were two wallets out (of the suitcase)," MT said to the plainclothes officers who questioned him about the initial sequence of actions. Seeing the two wallets out of the suitcase, MT expressed curiosity and opened them. Upon opening them, he found several foreign currency notes. "There were Singapore dollars, American dollars, Iranian dollars, and Malaysian ringgit," he said, admitting he couldn't remember the total. He also found gold bars in the suitcase. MT took the foreign currency to exchange and sell the gold. He used the proceeds from his crime to buy a dirt bike and two coffee grinders. First Inspector Nasrullah, Head of the Panakkukang Police Criminal Investigation Unit, said the victim discovered the foreign currency and jewelry were missing from the suitcase after trying to retrieve something. "He finally filed a report, and we followed up by going to the scene to investigate," said First Inspector Nasrullah, when met at his office on Thursday evening (January 15, 2026).
