Visitando COMODORO RIVADAVIA: MUSEO DEL PETROLEO ⛽ + Vistas del CERRO CHENQUE en Chubut, Argentina
Today we continue our visit to Comodoro Rivadavia in Chubut, Argentina! In this video, we'll be visiting the National Petroleum Museum, which is one of the city's main attractions. This museum showcases the history of oil from its formation millions of years ago to its modern-day industrialization. We took a guided tour where we heard the story of oil discovery in Comodoro and were able to see where the first oil drilling operations were carried out. We also took part in a simulation where you can experience what it would be like to travel to the depths of an oil well! It was a very interesting visit, and we highly recommend it if you have the opportunity to visit the city. On our way back to the city center, we also made a stop at Cerro Chenque. Seen from downtown Comodoro, this hill almost resembles a pyramid and has a summit that rises 212 meters above sea level. From this point, you can enjoy beautiful views of the entire city. And of course, in this video we also try some delicious dishes: paella and garlic prawns at Cayo Coco del Mar, artisanal strawberry and coconut ice cream with dulce de leche at Chocolates, and seafood pizza at Puerto Mitre. We hope you enjoy this video, and we'll see you in the next one where we take you for a day at Rada Tilly. #comodororivadavia #comodoro #argentina 🌧️🚶♂️ Three Days in Comodoro Rivadavia: From Rain to Sun, Exploring the Oil Capital of Chubut 🇦🇷☀️ 🌦️ Day 2: Comodoro Under Rain and Frustration The second day in Comodoro Rivadavia didn't go as planned: the city was hit by torrential rains and a horizontal wind that made walking impossible. We went out for a walk anyway, ignoring the weather, but found almost all the tourist spots closed. We didn't let our spirits dampen and decided to try it all again the next day, this time with the sun back out. ☀️🍽️ Day 3: Sun, Gastronomy, and a Second Chance Finally, the third day dawned bright, and we tried again. We decided to take advantage of the morning to visit all the places we had left to visit, and since it was already midday, our first stop was our favorite restaurant in town: Lococo del Mar. We tried a flavorful paella with garlic prawns, among other fresh seafood dishes. Samuel opted for a seafood casserole, while Audrey chose prawns, and both praised the freshness and quality of the produce, making it worth returning to this place. 🏛️⛽ National Petroleum Museum: History, Science, and Patagonian Pride After lunch, we set off for the National Petroleum Museum, located 3.5 km from the city center, walking under a blue sky and ideal temperature. The tour included a brief, unsuccessful stop at Huergo Park (closed for renovations), but we finally arrived at the museum. There, we took part in a guided tour where we learned about the discovery of oil in Argentina, which took place right here on December 13, 1907, during the city's second oil drilling operation. We were amazed by the story of Humberto Beghin and José Fouché (a German drilling expert), and the fact that they weren't looking for water, but rather drilled much deeper until they found the coveted crude. We were able to see the original machinery, monuments, and even historical telegrams confirming the quality of the kerosene found. The museum also offers interactive exhibits where kids and adults can experience a simulation of what it's like to descend into an oil well; the sensation is so real it feels like an earthquake—ideal for families! We discovered that oil isn't always black; its color depends on its chemical composition, viscosity, and density. We also learned that civilizations like the Egyptians, Chaldeans, and people of the Middle Ages used oil for embalming, construction, and medicine. Inside the museum, the annual election of the National Oil Queen is held, and historical photos of the celebration are displayed. We concluded that the museum is suitable for all ages, super interactive, educational, and with affordable admission ($120 per person), ideal for learning how the oil industry forever changed the city. 🍦🍫 Snack at "Chocolates" and Meeting with Followers On our way out, we stopped at "Chocolates," a renowned ice cream and candy shop on San Martín Street. There, we met a family who followed the channel, shared anecdotes, and enjoyed homemade ice cream: Audrey chose lúcuma (her childhood favorite) and Samuel chose dulce de leche with shredded coconut. It was a warm and sweet moment after the busy day.
