ABOUT ISUZU TROOPER The Isuzu Trooper is a full-size SUV produced by Isuzu that sold from 1981 to 2002 (arrived in US for 1984 model year). In the Japanese market it was sold as the Isuzu Bighorn, the car was exported internationally mainly as a Trooper but it also received several other nameplates (In US, the Trooper also rebadged as Acura SLX, sold around 1996 to 1999). (Source : Wikipedia) ABOUT 1ST-GEN TROOPER (1984 - 1991) One of Isuzu's most popular offerings was the square-edged Trooper, offered in the U.S. since 1984. The Trooper rode a wave of 4x4 popularity, positioning itself as a compact off-roader alternative to massive SUVs like the Chevrolet Suburban and the indomitable Toyota Land Cruiser. Initially, the Trooper featured a 1.9-liter four-cylinder and four-speed manual transmission; even for the era, the wheezy 86 horsepower output was barely adequate for the Trooper's 3,700-pound frame. Still, the Trooper impressed with its mountain goat, go-anywhere capability and cavernous interior dimensions. An upgraded 2.3-liter four-cylinder arrived for 1986, packing a more respectable 108 horsepower. A 2.2-liter diesel was available in the U.S. only in 1986, and was quickly phased out due to lack of interest. A fuel-injected 2.6-liter four-cylinder launched in 1987 with 120 horsepower, followed quickly by a 2.8-liter V6 that matched the 2.6-liter four-cylinder with 120 horses of its own. Originally only the long wheelbase, five-door model was on offer, but in March 1992 the three-door model was added. The second-gen Trooper came with either a 3.2-liter or 3.5-liter V6, offering between 190 horsepower and 215 horsepower.
