However, after his release, he reforms and decides to work hard, living on Kumejima. However, rumors spread in the village that since Jira (Chatan Shibe) arrived on the island after his prison release, there has been a constant stream of thefts, leading to a commotion... "Chatan Shibe Story" was created by renowned Okinawan theater actor Kotaro Ogimi. This masterpiece, which also addresses modern social issues such as discrimination and prejudice, has been revived for the first time in nearly 30 years with a new cast. Please enjoy this rare performance! [Story of Chatan Shibee] Jiraa is a young man from Chatan Village with a scar (Shibee) over his mouth. So people called him Chatan Shibee. Lived in poverty, he stole 2 soaps and was jailed. After serving his time, he mended his ways and moved to Kume island to restart his life. However, public disturbances arose on the island when people started to suspect Jiraa (Chatan Shibee) for frequent thefts happening in the community since his arrival… “Story of Chatan Shibee” is a masterpiece by renowned Okinawa actor OGIMI Kotaro that captures social issues like prejudice and discrimination. This play is revived with new casts after about 30 years.
