History of Knanaya Catholics, USA

Knanaya Catholics are descendent of ancient Jews immigrated to Kerala, India from Southern Mesopotamia (In modern Iraq) in AD 345. 400 people of 72 families landed in Kodungallur coast of Kerala under the leadership of Thomas Cana (Knai Thomas) and Bishop Uraha Mar Yousef. Community maintained its unity by finding life partners from within the community (Endogamous community). Knanaya people are known for organised immigration. At present approximately 200000+ community member live across 50 countries, mostly in India, United States, United Kingdom and Australia.
