June 2026 Recap

A couple of our viewers recently suggested music inspired by Island in the Sun and a little bossa nova. While I couldn't use the copyrighted songs—and found traditional bossa nova a little too mellow for this month's action—I tried creating my own blend of chill island vibes with a laid-back summer feel. Hopefully it captures the mood of June beneath the pier! This month brought back many familiar faces, including: 🐠 Black Margate 🐡 Sharpnose Puffer 🦅 Spotted Eagle Ray 🐟 Snook 🦀 Arrow Crab 🐦 A surprise visit from a Cormorant 🦁 Lionfish 🐙 Octopus 🌈 Rainbow Parrotfish And then there was the sargassum. Heavy mats of seaweed drifted through the area, at times covering the entire surface and creating an eerie, shadowy canopy over the camera. It made for some incredibly unique underwater scenes and reminded us that every month beneath the pier tells a different story. One of my favorite parts of summer is watching the ecosystem come alive as the bait schools return and the tarpon and snook begin their seasonal hunts. Seeing these predators slowly move through the bait—or explode into action when they strike—is always a reminder that the summer months are some of the most exciting underwater.
