3 das cascatas mais impressionantes localizadas nas Arribas do Douro, "na margem oposta"

Not wanting to break with tradition, but due to our proximity, as well as a good and strong friendship with our Spanish brothers, I'm sharing three places here on the channel that are very close to our borders, located in the Douro River cliffs, but on the opposite side in Spanish territory. We are in the ideal season to visit some of the most beautiful waterfalls, while the water flow is still quite intense. This time, once again, I decided to visit three of the most beautiful waterfalls located on Spanish soil, but relatively close to the border with Portugal. All three waterfalls are located very close to each other, and can be visited on the same day if well planned, as happened in my case, and they are all located in the Douro River cliffs, in Spanish territory. I especially highlight the "Cascada de los Humos" for the intensity of the enormous waterfall that projects to a height of about 50 meters, creating a water vapor effect in a spectacular setting! This Cascata de los Humos (Waterfall of Humos) is located in Masueco. Upon arriving in this town, it is necessary to travel along a dirt road, reasonably well-maintained and passable by any car, as this waterfall is visited by many people during this period at the end of the winter rainy season. The road is about 2 kilometers long, and at the end there is a parking area for cars. The remaining distance to the waterfall must be covered on foot; this is about 800 to 1000 meters at the bottom of a somewhat steep descent, where a vertical viewpoint has been built, suspended above the enormous waterfall. However, despite the good access, some physical preparation is necessary due to the quite steep slope. The SECOND waterfall is located a little further north; About 6 kilometers by car from the first Humos waterfall, near the Spanish border town of Pereña de la Ribera, a border municipality belonging to the province of Salamanca, autonomous community of Castile and León. Once there, it is also necessary to travel along a reasonably good dirt road until reaching the "Pozo Airón" waterfall, where you can drive to a parking lot at the end: near this town of Pereña de la Ribera, right at the beginning of this road, there are some fairly deep depressions made of cement, be careful not to hit the car's oil pan, lest it happen as it did to me, that due to a certain distraction and some speed, with the sudden jump my car hit the oil pan; fortunately it only dented a little, due to it being made of sheet metal. But there are many cars, which are usually made of aluminum alloy, or plastic, in this case, there could be considerable damage. However, the rest of the car journey went well, only this time with more attention. Finally, we left the car in the dirt park and walked the rest of the trail; about a kilometer. The Pozo Airón waterfall is very beautiful, both for the landscape and for the various waterfalls that cascade down high: there are about 45 to 50 meters of free fall from this waterfall, not counting the first falls before this last one. This one has the interesting feature of having a huge cave behind the waterfall, where you can cross from one side to the other without the risk of getting wet, in an incredible setting! THE THIRD; The "Cascada del Pinero-Pozo de los Lirios" waterfall is located a little further southwest and belongs to the town of Aldeiadávila da Ribeira, in the border municipality of Spain in the province of Salamanca, autonomous community of Castile and León: following the paved road towards Playa del Rostro on the Douro River, you will find, on the descent already offering views of the Douro, just after a tighter bend, a dirt track to the right: it's about a kilometer along this track, which at the end also has a parking area with plenty of space to leave your car. The remaining distance is not as long as in the interior, but the descent is quite steep, covered on foot, along a small south-south path until you reach the waterfall. The flow of water is not as intense here, but it is still incredibly impressive to see the enormous cascade, which falls from the top of the cliffs that narrow in that spot. This waterfall, like the one at Pereña de la Ribera in Pozo Airón, also has a small but narrow walkway, and you can walk behind it, enjoying a unique and wonderful view. All the tributaries that give rise to these three waterfalls flow into the Douro River. Attention: to visit all three waterfalls, you need to be in some physical condition, so it's essential to bring light and cool clothing and footwear, and never forget your water bottle! I hope you enjoy it and have fun. If you can, visit without delay, before the water flow decreases, because it's well worth it!
