Bird Research with Undergraduates at Rice Creek Field Station - RCA Reflection Talk

Talk Description Rice Creek Field Station is a hidden gem in Oswego County that is home to 182 bird species. With a dedicated team of undergraduates, I have been studying these birds for the last nine years. In this talk, I will give an overview of the various bird projects taking place here, including those on Northern Cardinal behavior, Bobolink breeding biology, and Northern Saw-whet Owl migration. I will also highlight our work at the Rice Creek Bird Observatory banding station and how members of the public can volunteer and get involved. Speaker Dan Baldassarre is an Associate Professor and Provost Teaching Fellow in the SUNY Oswego Department of Biological Sciences. He is also the Director of Rice Creek Bird Observatory. Dan got his PhD in Ornithology before joining the Oswego faculty. He has studied birds all over the world, including Australia and the Galápagos. Here at Oswego, he conducts bird research at Rice Creek Field Station with a great team of undergraduates. On campus, he teaches classes about bird biology, evolution, and animal behavior.  This talk is a Rice Creek Reflection sponsored by Rice Creek Associates (RCA), the friend group of Rice Creek Field Station. Rice Creek Field Station is part of the State University of New York at Oswego, and is located at 193 Thompson Road in Oswego, NY.
