Fluid Mechanics Lesson 12A: Nondimensionalization of the Equations of Fluid Flow
Fluid Mechanics Lesson Series - Lesson 12A: Nondimensionalization of the Equations of Fluid Flow. In this 14.5-minute video, Professor Cimbala shows how to nondimensionalize the equations of fluid motion - the continuity and Navier-Stokes equations. Furthermore, he explains the difference between nondimensionalized and normalized. For the latter, we can directly compare the orders of magnitude of various terms in the Navier-Stokes equation, eliminate negligible terms, and thus form approximate equations which are easier to solve than the full Navier-Stokes equation. This video incorporates material from Sections 10-1 to 10-2 of the Fluid Mechanics textbook by Cengel and Cimbala, edition 4.
