Stop Relying on Willpower - Design Out Addiction Instead
Why do people keep returning to the same habit, even when they genuinely want to stop? The answer is not simply a lack of willpower. Our homes, phones, routines, routes, payment systems and social environments can all make risky choices easier to start and harder to resist. In this video, we explore a practical approach called 'Designing Out Addiction'. Instead of waiting until an urge is at its strongest, we look at how to intervene earlier by changing the environment around the behaviour. This video is for educational and harm-reduction purposes only. If you are physically dependent on alcohol, benzodiazepines or another substance, do not stop suddenly without medical advice, as withdrawal can be dangerous. From the forthcoming book Designing Out Addiction.
