Filmed in July 2013 at the Kazan Opera, this spectacular gala concert was held in celebration of the Olympic Universiade in Kazan, the vibrant capital of the Republic of Tatarstan. The evening pays tribute to one of the greatest bass singers of all time, Feodor Shalyapin (Chaliapine), who was born in this historic city. This extraordinary Shalyapin Gala brings together some of the finest voices of Tatarstan - especially outstanding bass singers - joined by the world-famous Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre from Saint Petersburg.
