Once at the park, there's no entrance fee, and I could have even driven in with my motorcycle. All because of the shutdown. No matter, riding an e-bike is fun, and I can stop anywhere. It's very warm, I'd guess almost 30 degrees Celsius, and there are quite a few hills. I reach Delicate Arch via a 5 km hike with some steep sections. The park is too big for me to manage on a bicycle. In the end, I climbed 860 meters in elevation and covered 64 km. I end the evening with live music and a burger at the bar (The Blu Pig). The Americans are really into ice-cold Jägermeister with a beer (Deer & Beer). Tomorrow I continue on towards Monument Valley. Daily stage: 6 km October 4, 2025 Arches National Park Part 2 and Monument Valley Shortly after 8:30 a.m., I drove back to Arches National Park, directly to Devils Garden. There you'll find the most beautiful and largest arches, such as Landscape Arch. Wall Arch requires a bit of sure-footedness, but the view is fantastic. Around 12:30 p.m., I set off towards Monument Valley, arriving at The View Campground (https://monumentvalleyview.com) at 5:00 p.m. after a few stops (Forrest Gump Point). The $8 entrance fee and $52 for the campsite aren't cheap for the facilities, but the view is simply indescribably beautiful. I had pasta with salad and drank my last beer. Two nice American women (Jenni and Erim) from the tent next to mine invited me for another beer and gave me travel tips. It got really cold again at night. Daily stage 318 km October 5, 2025 Monument Valley and Horseshoe Bend I have breakfast with a fantastic view of Monument Valley. After a short hike in the immediate vicinity, I set off shortly after 11:00 a.m. and try to drive the 17-Mile Drive. I don't get far, though; a ranger informs me that motorcycles aren't allowed here and escorts me to the exit. So I'll be at Lake Powell earlier than expected. A quick stop at Glen Canyon Dam. Apparently, they don't charge admission to Glen Canyon itself; the ticket booths are also empty due to the shutdown. I pitch my tent at the Wahweap RV & Campground for $30/night plus $3 for a shower token. Everything is very well organized here. In the evening, I visit Horseshoe Bend. It's a sheer drop of about 300 meters, and it's incredibly crowded; everyone wants a selfie. It's almost a miracle that (thankfully) so few accidents have happened there. Parking fee: $8. Daily Stage 260 km October 6, 2025 There's no need to rush this morning. It was the first night I slept more than 7 hours straight; the jet lag seems to be over. I check the bike: oil level, chain lube, etc. After a light breakfast, I ride to Lone Rock Beach, relax for a bit, and cool off in the perfectly temperate water. The trail there has some deep sand sections, which I navigate slowly because the bike is heavy and not my usual one; I don't want to risk a fall. There's a one-hour time difference between Utah and Arizona, so suddenly I'm in a hurry after all, because I have an Antelope Canyon tour booked for 3:00 PM with Antelope Canyon X (https://www.antelopecanyon-x.com/). The 90-minute tour costs $52, and advance booking is highly recommended. Although many people visit the canyon, it doesn't feel crowded. The Navajo have everything well under control, acting as traffic managers, tour guides, and photographers all in one. A fantastic trip. On the way to the campground, I enjoy the evening atmosphere at Lake Powell one last time, with the full moon just rising above it. Daily distance: 93 km
