River Crossing Blues

I never know when a song idea will hit me. This one was inspired by watching YT videos of HikingDancer, aka Roadrunner, hiking the Continental Divide Trail. There are many stream crossings on that trail and most do not have bridges. She likes to call out, "River Crossing!" each time she crosses. After a few weeks of watching her, this phrase stuck in my head. Soon it morphed into a few lyric lines and then a melody appeared. Soon, I had the blues. Enjoy. River Crossing Blues Paul Bauck, 2026 CHORUS On this trail I’m hiking without a guide, On this trail I’ve laughed, screamed and cried, Now I’m crossin’ this river just to get to the other side; It’s rained five days and the sky is black as night, My clothes are soaked and I am an awful sight, But across that river I believe I see some light; It’s thundering and lighting and I have no where to go, I need some shelter cause the wind is beginning to blow, To cross this river I gotta step into the flow; I love to ramble among the hills and trees, And up on the ridges where I can feel the breeze, In those mountain streams my toes start to freeze; Lunch is over, so it’s time to get back on the trail, But I’m feeling lethargic and moving just like a snail, And I see another crossing down deep in that vale, #ukulele #blues #continentaldividetrail
