After crossing the border at Gondo it continues on the Swiss A9 to the top of the Simplon Pass at 2,005 m — roughly 37 minutes of continuous driving on a wide, two-lane paved pass road. 🏔️ About the Simplon Pass The Simplon Pass (Passo del Sempione) sits at 2,005 m between the Pennine and Lepontine Alps and links Brig in Valais with Domodossola in Italy. Napoleon had the road built between 1801 and 1805 as the first carriage road across an Alpine pass — engineered with gentle, sweeping curves rather than tight hairpins.
